Jul 21, 2017

In this episode, I answer questions from my newsletter subscribers.

Questions on the show:

Q 1: A few people wanted to get my take on the McGregor vs Mayweather fight

Q 2: Kurt- I had a car accident and now, after 4 weeks, I am cleared to go to the gym again. How should I organize my training and nutrition? Before the accident, I was in the middle of a cutting phase, and in those weeks of inactivity, I have put on 5-7 lbs. Should I go straight into a cut or is that too much of losing muscle after not training for 4 weeks?

Q3: Isaac - Hey Kyle, how do you see your career panning out for the rest of your life? Do you still see yourself primarily as a coach for the next 30 years to come?

Q4: Jimmy - Hey Kyle, my question for the podcast would be about business and what are things you wish you would have been told about starting your own business. What are the biggest challenges in the first months of starting a business?

Q5: James @james_vetor - Hey Kyle my question is how to identify if a potential sponsor is a scam or legit?

Q6: Chris - 100 day Cut, lost 20 pounds. What recommendations do you have for when someone finishes a program? Would it be to hop right back into another one? Or maybe freestyle it in the gym for a while and just have fun?

Q7: John - if there is a day when you know you will over-eat (let's say, thanksgiving for example), is it better to lift and convert those extra calories into muscle instead of fat or do extra cardio to prevent the accumulation of fat? When would the ideal timing of either be (before a meal, next morning, etc.)?

Q8: Dillon – Hey Kyle, my question is when is the best time to use a slingshot in bench training?

Q9: Ryan – Hey Kyle, with the rise in the powerlifting standards in recent years, what type of commitment does it take to be competitive?

In this episode, I talk with cinematographer Zack Kravits. Zack and I met last month in Austin Texas. After digging into some of his work, I was blown away by his video quality. Zack is creating some of the best videos in the YouTube fitness space right now. In the social media era we live in, learning how to create better content is huge and it's just going to get more important! The future "resumé" is going to be directly tied to your social footprint. We talked a lot about how you can make higher quality videos without investing a ton of money into fancy equipment. Everyone starts somewhere. Don't expect the first time you try something to be great at it. At the heart of this episode, we dig into how being honest with yourself combined with following your true passion can lead to something great.

In this episode, I answer questions I received from my newsletter subscribers.

Sign up for my newsletter here: kylehuntfitness.com/flexibledietingmanual

Q 1 – Fake Weights

Q 2- Isaac: Hey Kyle, during deadlifts I find that my form is inconsistent. A lot of the time the 1st rep always looks better than subsequent reps. What would you recommend? Resetting after each rep? Thanks man. Thoroughly enjoy your content!

Q 3- Nick: Kyle, What courses did you have to take in college for your degree and which one(s) do you think have translated most to your actual career?

Q 4 – A few people….Best accessory work to improve your squat, bench and deadlift. **Read Article: http://www.kylehuntfitness.com/the-9-best-assistance-exercises-for-raw-powerlifting/

Q 5 – Conner: Where do you think Youtube Fitness and Fitness social media will be in 5, 10, 15 years? Do you see it fading away or remaining a staple in the industry? Such an interesting space in social media, very saturated.

Q 6 – Katie: My question is, do you think everyone should eventually transition to intuitive eating? Or can macro tracking be something that is "okay" to practice forever?

Q 7 – Kevin:  In regards to programming, how often, if ever, do you build full Training blocks with main movement variations acting as the main movement and take it through the full range of hypertrophy, strength and peaking? For example just for fun right now I'm using front squat, wide grip bench and block pulls as my main movements and plan on doing a 12 week program ending in a peak where I can test my maxes on these variations. Then I will go back to another 12 weeks and plug in my main movements and start back at hypertrophy for those. Hope this makes sense. Have a good week and can't wait for the podcast! Kevin

Q 8 – Guy: I understand the concept of refeed, and why we need to program that after a while. But how can someone judge by how much his metabolism adapted to a specific diet/training? The formula you use for BMR and flexible dieting doesn't take that into account does it? Wouldn't that make the transition from cutting to bulking a bit tricky?

In this episode, I talk about how I try to balance everything I have going on in life. I dig deep in this one. The truth is, it's really hard to be a good dad, run a successful business and still make progress in the gym. I'm not perfect, but I have a pretty good system down. I think you are going to enjoy this episode a lot. Please make sure you are subscribed to the show!

In this episode, I answer the following questions from my newsletter subscribers.

Subscribe to my newsletter here: http://www.kylehuntfitness.com/the-big-3/

Questions:

Q1: Isaac:  Do you have any experience (yourself or others) with step counting as a way to measure activity level. Do you think it is useful or does it become obsessive?

Q2: Garrett: Do you think it would benefit a powerlifter to train on competition brand equipment such as elkio or commercial gym equipment

Q3: Don:  Mobility vs flexibility .... Differences and which one is more important

Q4: Mike: Given the huge amount of information (and misinformation) available online and the fact that society stresses making well-informed, researched decisions, what's your advice for silencing the overthinking and just picking one program to put all of my effort into?

Q5: Multiple people – How flexible is too flexible with your nutrition?

In this episode, I sit down with USAPL powerlifter Kristen Dunsmore. As a whole, powerlifting has exploded in popularity in recent years. In that time, the growth with the female population has really taken off as well. In the show we talked about some reasons why that is. In addition to that, we also touched on how Kristen went from a cardio bunny to bad ass powerlifter, the importance of just signing up for your first meet, why it's a good idea to always listen to your body (don't ignore injuries), the benefit to sticking with a program and how drinking liquor can help keep you sober...
